Founders Regain the Clerk’s Cup (Golf)
On Tuesday 11th June the annual golf match between the Founders and Basketmakers took place at Porters Park GC in Radlett, which has been the venue for the last 10 years or so.
Our team comprised Paul Taylor, Mark Tanner, myself and Richard Whitehead a friend of mine who has over many years filled in for us when we have been short and is often a guest at our Company Day. As it happened the Basketmakers also had to field one guest to complete their team.
The teams convened for an early lunch before teeing off from 1 pm playing in two 4-ball better ball matches. Both matches were very closely fought won on the 18th green. Paul and Mark went one ahead on the 15th hole and managed to defend that slender lead over the final three holes. Richard and myself were 3 down after 11 holes, but retrieved the situation to be all square after 17 holes and then won the last hole to win by one.
The win broke a 4 year losing streak, allowing us to regain possession of the handsome Clerk’s Cup, a trophy gifted for the match nearly twenty years ago by Clerk Emeritus Andrew Gillett.
