Celebrating Craft and Achievement at Founders’ Hall

Founders’ Hall has recently been updated with the Master Founders’ name on both our stone wall and shield wall, carved and painted by the artist Carrie Horwood. Carrie continues the age-old tradition of letter cutting as a stonemason and enjoys contributing to the history of the City of London through her work.

This year marks 20 years in business for Carrie, whose schedule continues to grow. She has been shortlisted for a nationwide small business award and attended a reception at 11 Downing Street on 1 July. On 10 July, she met the King during his visit to Walmer Castle, following a nomination by former Sandwich town Mayor Paul Carter for her work carving a Compass Rose, celebrating Sandwich as the head Cinque Port.

Carrie is entering the Duke of Gloucester's Gold Award for stonemasonry excellence, a fitting highlight in a successful year. She is also fundraising for Aspire by virtually swimming the English Channel over 12 weeks. Aspire supports people with spinal cord injuries, providing essential equipment and advice. So far, she has raised £180 over 4.49 miles. Donations can be made via her fundraising page.

We wish Carrie the best of luck!
