End of term update from the John Warner School

This term has seen remarkable progress across The John Warner School's robotics and engineering programs, engaging students from primary through to its Founder's Scholars.

The school's Primary Robotics program successfully introduced Year 5 & 6 students to robotics through a "mythical creatures" theme. Teams from Forres, Cranbourne, St Catherine’s Roselands, and St Andrews Primary designed, built, and coded VEX IQ robots, culminating in fantastic moving creations.

In Secondary Robotics, teams are developing new robots for the upcoming season's block-placement challenge. The John Warner School is excited to launch the UK’s first secondary school robotics league this September, involving four Hertfordshire schools—a truly groundbreaking initiative. Thanks to the Worshipful Company of Founders, two new Year 7 teams have joined, focusing on CAD modeling and programming.

The school's Founders’ Brunel Scholars gained invaluable experience, including a trip to Formula Student at Silverstone and a tour of Loughborough University's advanced materials labs, where they discovered connections to a John Warner alumnus and celebrated former scholar Lauren Higham's award-winning work.

Finally, The John Warner School's Year 8 Industrial Cadets achieved significant success, winning both "Overall Winners" and "People's Choice Award" at GSK Ware for their innovative sustainable theme park project, complete with a virtual roller coaster model. A prototype can be seen here: JWS Industrial cadets 2025.

The Founders’ Brunel Awards are as ever incredibly grateful to Stuart Higham for the abundance of work he puts in to making this happen.
