Our 2022 Cranfield Award Winner reported that she has recently started a Social Enterprise called BLISS - Black Leaders in Sustainability Spaces.
She reports: “Studies from IEMA show that sustainability professionals identifying as black and non-white minorities only make up 3% of the profession. Only 1-2% of black students took up any environmental-related subjects.
The vision for BLISS is to build a network that fosters conversation, collaboration, and growth. The intention is to create a thriving network where seasoned professionals, emerging talent, and supporters can come together to foster a more diverse and inclusive sustainability industry.
BLISS aims to encourage and elevate Black professionals, bridging gaps and ensuring that sustainability truly represents everyone. This was officially launched in October 2024 during black history month. Since then, we've had several networking events, 2 knowledge sharing sessions and 1 social event. Most recently, during London Climate Action Week on Thursday 26th, we hosted an event on Just transition and Social Mobility.
The event was hosted at SPACE 4 in Finsbury Park, London, which is a cooperative space focused on investing in local communities, democratic business and social and economic change. A great fit for the ethos of BLISS. BLISS is open to all who support the mission on Just Climate transition.”
